Malawi: UN Rep Offers Covid-19 Response Advice

The UN Women Country Representative in Malawi, Clara Anyangwe, has called for a sustained awareness on behavioural change in the fright against Covid-19.

Development Diaries learnt that she made the call during a ministerial meeting of stakeholders on implementation of gender-related interventions in the context of Covid-19.

Anyangwe said that the mental stress that Covid-19 was putting on women, girls, men and boys could not be underestimated, calling for the safeguarding of the rights and well-being of every one.

‘We recognise the ever-increasing efforts government was undertaking, assisted by civil society organisations (CSOs), development partners and other players’, she said.

‘We need to ensure that awareness-raising at community level continues to Centre on behavioural change, social norm change, to ensure households, families and communities have the right information and are purposefully participating in and owning the Covid-19 response’.

She also said, ‘We should continue to look critically into addressing the gendered impacts of Covid-19 in an effective and efficient manner’.

The UN Women representative also said that personal protective equipment (PPEs) had been distributed in the southern African country.
