Malawi: MRCS Commits Funds to Covid-19 Fight

The Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) Communications and Humanitarian Specialist, Felix Washoni, has stated that his organisation has committed about K 3.3 billion towards fighting Covid-19 in the southern African country.

He made this known at Songwe Border, where Red Cross volunteers and health workers were jointly screening people.

Development Diaries learnt that the MRCS officials were eager to reach every corner of the country with different interventions such as supporting markets with handwashing facilities and screening in border points.

Washoni said, ‘We want these messages and services to go in rural places where some are still in denial of the perseverance of Covid-19’.

Immigration Officer at Songwe Border, Felix Kadwala, commended MRCS for intensifying screening exercise, saying it has assisted in reducing the number of those infected with the pandemic at the border. He. however, asked for cooperation from the public, arguing that some people do not want to be screened when entering or going to neighbouring Tanzania.

It was gathered that MRCS messages have promoted adherence to preventive measures at the market and that many people are now using face masks.
