Malawi: Mpinganjira Foundation Provides Medical Aid

Thomson and Barbra Mpinganjira Foundation has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) worth K20 million to the Ministry of Health to fight Covid-19 in Malawi.

The items were given to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH), Blantyre, Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH), Lilongwe, and Mzuzu Central Hospital (MCH), Mzuzu.

With many confirmed cases of Covid-19, Malawi’s health care system is struggling to manage the second wave of the pandemic.

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the country, including Women of Virtue International Christian Charity Organisation (WOVICCO), have been assisting government in addressing the virus.

‘The Foundation believes in working together with the government and communities in surmounting any challenge the country may be facing including the Covid-19 pandemic’, the NGO said in a statement.

The foundation says it aims to use creative approaches to bring hope and joy to the underprivileged citizens of the country by improving their outcomes in the health and education sectors.

Deputy Director for Nursing and Midwifery Services at QECH, Linley Chewere, thanked the foundation for the donation, saying it will help in curbing the spread of the virus in the country.

‘Masks and surgical gloves are very vital in our line of work here at the hospital as such, there is a huge need for these supplies as we continue with the fight against Covid-19’, Chewere said.

‘We profoundly thank the Thomson and Barbara Mpinganjira Foundation for this huge contribution and it will go a long way in assisting in our work of saving lives’.
