The Centre for Social Concern (CfSC) has expressed its commitment to the promotion of peace and tolerance amongst citizens of Malawi, especially the people of Lilongwe.
Development Diaries reports that Programme Office at the non-governmental organisation (NGO), Tobias Jere, made this known at a meeting with religious leaders, traditional leaders, law enforcement agents, and youths.
He noted the need to continuously promote peace to enable growth and development across the country.
It is understood that the country’s record of holding at least five mainly peaceful general elections and three peaceful transfers of power between opposing political parties makes it a shining example in the region.
‘There’s peace, yes, because we see people working in peace. So, as a faith organisation, we are looking at what peace really is and try to promote it’, Nyasa Times quoted Jere as saying.
Jere encouraged the youths not to be used as tools for violence and unrest by political leaders even as the country heads for the 2025 election.
Also speaking at the meeting, one of the block leaders in Lilongwe, Christopher Mwase, said they have discussed issues that can lead to the disturbance of peace and protection among block leaders.
