Southern African Development Community (SADC) Gender Protocol and Gender Links Madagascar have launched the #VoiceandChoice 2020 Sexual Reproductive and Health Rights (SRHR) Barometer.
Noting the key barometer findings in the time of Covid-19 and 100 SRHR indicators, Federation pour la Promotion Feminine et Enfantine (FPFE) President Celine Yolande said there were laws and policies that allow adolescents to access SRH services without third party authorisation.
Yolande also said Madagascar had made improvements in reducing the percentage in new HIV infections in females between the ages of 15 and 24, and the country now provides free sanitary pads in schools.
Director-General of the Promotion of Women, from the Ministry of Population, Social Protection and the Promotion of Women (DGPF), Dr Rabetaliana Rova, who was the keynote speaker, noted that the government was committed and promoting gender equality, gender equity, peace and security.
Members of the Young Women Alliance (YWA), Tessa Ratovonar and Jessica Malalaniaina, said that young people were central to the sustainable development of the country.
