Liberia: Red Cross Begins Resilience Building Project

Flood

The Liberian Red Cross (LRC) has launched the Recovery and Resilience Building Assistance (RRBA) project to help support victims of floods in vulnerable communities in Liberia.

Development Diaries reports that the project aims to build resilient communities capable of managing and reducing disaster risks.

This aligns with the humanitarian policy of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The project is expected to benefit Montserrado and Margibi county communities, specifically targeting individuals affected by the floods.

Between 01 and 04 September, 2023, Liberia experienced excessive rainfall in several cities with the highest flooding reported in the North-Eastern part of Liberia.

About 15,200 people were reported to be affected by both urban and coastal floods, which swept away infrastructure, fishing settlements, houses, and community facilities.
