Liberia: Flood Victims in Need of Support

The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) recently reported that heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding have caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure in parts of Liberia.

Development Diaries reports that the floods have had a significant impact on places like Kru Town, Kpatawee, Rubber Factory, Civil Compound, and Brooklyn settlements in Bong County.

The situation is expected to worsen as the National Disaster Management Agency’s weather bug has predicted continued heavy rainfall throughout September 2023.

Natural disasters, insufficient access to clean water, food insecurity, and increased socioeconomic vulnerabilities are just a few of the humanitarian issues that Liberia is dealing with.

Over the years, there have been periodic instances of erosion and floods in the Kru community.

1,955 people have been impacted so far, with 520 of them displaced in public buildings, data from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Society (IFRC) reveals.

After an assessment of the situation by the Red Cross, it has been described as ‘extremely desvastating’.

It is in a bid to address the situation that the LNRCS recently appealed to individuals, organisations, businesses, government entities, and foreign partners to contribute to the emergency appeal fund.

Funding raised will undoubtedly help in securing food and non-food items for those in urgent need.

Development Diaries calls on individuals, organisations, businesses, government entities, and foreign partners to contribute to the emergency appeal fund to help salvage the already dire situation faced by those affected.
