H. Conway Foundation has donated medical supplies to Fish Town Hospital and microphones and stands to Voice of Webo Radio in River Gee County, southeast Liberia.
The foundation said it made the donations on the back of calls from officials of the Fish Town Referral Hospital and other health facilities in the county for assistance.
Liberia’s health system still faces a number of challenges, including poor disease surveillance and data management, lack of emergency preparedness on all levels of the system, and poor clinical management of external ventricular drain (EVD) patients.
‘It is in this vein a son of Rivergee County Dr Harry Conway has responded through his H. Conway Foundation and has provided 5,000 pieces of surgical gloves’, representative of the foundation, Robert Weah, said.
Administrator of the Fish Town Referral Hospital, Dr. Desmond Chamel, described the donation as timely, noting that nurses had complained about lack of gloves.
Also speaking, Voice of Webo Station Manager, Mark Kollie, thanked the foundation for the donation, saying the intervention was timely.
The government response was set out in the Health Investment Plan 2015 to 2021, aiming to ‘build back stronger’.
Generating the potential to detect and appropriately respond to outbreaks of infectious diseases that could become epidemics is a key part of the investment plan.
