Amref Health Africa and the Coca-Cola System in Kenya have partnered to provide Covid-19 health and safety training to bars and restaurants in Nairobi County.
It is understood that the partnership, which also involves the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), is aimed at controlling the spread of the virus, providing a safe environment for staff and customers.
Health officials in Kenyan had reported that citizens were not following health protocols to limit the spread of Covid-19, leading to a jump in daily infections.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had called on Kenyans to adhere to public health protocols meant to limit the spread of the virus.
Also, the Kenyan leader instructed ministers to work virtually, ban public gatherings, move up the nightly curfew to 10:00pm, and extend curfew until January.
‘We know that it has not been easy for eateries, bars and restaurants, especially those that fall under the micro small and medium enterprises category that had to close in adherence to government directives during the initial months of the pandemic’, Experiential Marketing Manager at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, Ampher Apidi, said.
‘To support them to get back to business and with continuity, we are partnering with like-minded partners like NMS and Amref to invest back into these small giants of our economy who are the backbone of Kenya’s resilience’.
As for the Amref Health Africa Programme Manager, Martin Muchangi, ‘We are delighted to be part of this noble initiative that will contribute to ensuring that businesses comply with national health and safety guidelines which will also support our economy to grow again.
‘We are empowering traders with the knowledge that enables them to operate safely while ensuring they maintain a safe space for their customers.
‘This is being done through an easy to understand training curriculum and application of a set standard of operating procedures’.
The health and safety training campaign component, which is part of Coca-Cola’s ‘Open Like Never Before’ (OLNB) Campaign’, is targeting 18,000 trade outlets across the country.
