President Bola Tinubu’s decision to postpone his foreign trips is a prudent one in the face of the ongoing insecurity crisis, but citizens are not swayed by the cancellation of travel plans.
Development Diaries reports that President Tinubu postponed his scheduled trip to South Africa for the G20 Leaders’ Summit as he awaits further security briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima on the kidnapped Kebbi schoolgirls and the attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.
A statement by his Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that the president has ordered the deployment of more security personnel ‘to Eruku and the entire Ekiti local government area of the state and directed the police to go after the bandits who attacked worshippers’.
Unfortunately, citizens are not moved by cancelled travel plans. What they want are real results: children rescued, communities protected, and the attackers captured.
The abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State has reopened painful memories of students taken in different states over the years.
Also, the attack on worshippers in Kwara State, where armed men stormed a church and abducted people, has added to the fear spreading across communities.
Citizens are asking why criminals can still move freely despite repeated government assurances.
Beyond postponing trips, citizens want the president to show that results on the ground matter more than announcements in Abuja.
They expect faster rescue missions, better intelligence sharing, and sustained operations that weaken bandit networks.
They also want the government to support families of victims and improve safety in schools, especially in rural areas where most attacks happen. Citizens are tired of hearing that investigations are underway; they want to see people rescued, criminals arrested, and attacks reduced.
President Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief, this is the time to show leadership that brings comfort, not just sympathy.
Nigerians need action that protects their lives, restores trust in the security system, and gives children and families a chance to live without fear. The country is watching, and so are the families of the abducted girls and church victims. They need you to act now and to act in a way that brings clear and visible results.
