Ghana: WACSI Issues Notice on Covid-19

The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) has put out a notice, addressed to its staff, partners and the general public, on the measures the organisation has put in place to contain the spread of Covid-19. In a statement signed by the Executive Director, Nana Asantewa Afadzinu, the organisation stated that all its events and meetings that require physical presence have been suspended.

While informing the public that the scheduled training, Local Fundraising and Mobilising Support Training, for civil society organisations in the northern regions of Ghana has been suspended until further notice, the Executive Director said that all WACSI’s online courses continue as scheduled. Afadzinu also stated that WACSI staff will participate in meetings with other organisations using online tools. She said that staff will work from home until the office resumes, when conditions permit. She encouraged the public to contact them organisation during the shutdown period by email, info@wacsi.org.

The Executive Director assured the organisation’s partners that WACSI will continue to observe the public health situation in West Africa closely and that her organisation will continue to serve civil society in the region in the best way possible. Afadzinu commended the Government of Ghana, WHO, and other related institutions for their efforts to protect and inform.

The Executive Director further encouraged staff and partners to adhere to personal hygiene standards and all measures recommended by the WHO to minimise contracting the disease. ‘All staff and partners are assured of the Institute’s commitment to guarantee the wellbeing of its staff while ensuring that it delivers on its mission. We are all encouraged to stay resolute, void of fear and panic, as the relevant agencies continue to work assiduously to put the situation under satisfactory control’, she added.
