Development organisations in Ghana, including National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and UNESCO, have marked the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction with a quiz.
The quiz, it was learnt, was organsied among senior high schools in Ghana, to educate young people and raise awareness on the basic principles of disaster risk reduction.
Green Africa Youth Organisation (GAYO), the Africa Youth Advisory Board for Disaster Risk Reduction (AYARB_DRR) were also part of the organisers.
The quiz was held in Bolgatanga and Tamale, Kumasi, and Cape Coast, with four schools competing amongst each other.
‘With the theme for this year being governance, we are looking to promote leadership and ensure sustainability amongst the youth’, Communication Director of NADMO, George Ayisi, said while giving his keynote address.
Programme Officer of GAYO, Betty Bonsu, said the brain behind the quiz was Sandra Delali Kemeh who is the Chairperson of the AYAR_DRR.
GAYO is a youth-led gender-balanced advocacy group that facilitates the capacity building of young people to provide solutions and take action on pressing environmental issues.
