Ghana: Rebecca Foundation Donates Hospital Beds

Rebecca Foundation has donated hospital beds to support health care delivery in the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Kumasi South Hospital in Ghana.

The beds were donated to support government’s efforts in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic in the West African nation.

Ghana, like other African countries, has its work cut out for it in managing patients as Covid-19 infection rates are growing, threatening to overwhelm the country’s health system.

The second wave of the virus is infecting twice as many people per day than at the height of last year’s first wave, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

‘I am convinced that this donation will help increase the capacity of both health facilities in the management of patients’, Executive Director of the foundation, Osei Assibey, said.

Assibey urged the public to always adhere to the Covid-19 safety protocols as outlined by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital, Dr Oheneba Danso, thanked the foundation for the kind gesture.

Africa, which has surpassed three million confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, seeks to vaccinate about 780 million people, representing some 60 percent of its population of 1.3 billion.

According to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), 1.5 billion doses are needed, assuming two doses per person, estimating the effort will cost some $10 billion.
