Empowering Upcoming Women (EmpUW) has commenced the ‘SheUnimpeded’ initiative to empower at least 1,000 young women with skills in Ghana.
Development Diaries reports that EmpUW launched the initiative this week to equip young women with hands-on experiences in engineering, science, business management, fashion design, and catering.
Data from UN Women shows that more women, 9.6 percent, are employed below the international poverty line by age 15 compared to men, 7.9 percent.
The data also revealed that more women are unemployed at the same age as men.
Women in Ghana face numerous challenges as societal norms continue to limit the opportunities for them to thrive.
According to EmpUW, mitigating the impacts of these norms by connecting young women in the tertiary education system with experienced professionals will go a long way.
‘EmpUW connects aspiring individuals with accomplished women, providing a platform for unimpeded success and boundless growth’, EmpUW’s Director, Dorcas Dare, said.
‘EmpUW is dedicated to breaking down barriers and empowering women to achieve their goals and aspirations.
‘This initiative represents a significant step towards creating a world where women can achieve their goals and ambitions without restraint. I firmly believe that the journey to success should be unimpeded for all’.
Gender barriers that affect women in education and the labour market remain pervasive despite attempts to achieve gender equality in the country as enshrined in the country’s 1992 constitution.
