Enter: The Ladima Foundation Short Film Contest

Deadline: 21 June, 2020

The Ladima Foundation in partnership with the DW Akademie has announced a short film contest for African women. Content creators and filmmakers entering the contest are to focus on life during the Covid-19 pandemic in their submissions.

The contest aims to encourage African women to share their real-life stories, from across the continent, as they face various degrees of lockdown that limit their movements, opportunities and, often, basic freedoms. The organisers argue that the pandemic has affected women more in terms of increasing cases of domestic violence and their burden of care.

Benefits

  • Selected films by the jury will be streamed on the Ladima website along with other partner websites
  • Winners will also receive €500 each
  • Access to a year worth of webinars on a women’s film platform, valued at about $500

Eligibility

  • Entrant must be a woman
  • The film must be based on honest, personal experience
  • The film must specifically be about Covid-19
  • The content of the film must not be more than two minutes
  • Entries across genres are welcome
  • The themes should be on women coping with special needs, domestic violence or abuse during the lockdown
