Commonwealth Foundation’s online literary magazine, adda, has announced a call for participation in its freedom of expression writing competition.

The competition aims to promote peaceful, open dialogue and the free flow of information, including through a free and responsible media, and to enhance democratic traditions and strengthen democratic processes.

Benefits

  • Get featured in the adda magazine
  • Successful writers will receive a stipend

Eligibility

  • Open to writers from Commonwealth countries
  • Works should be related to freedom of expression, including freedom to express beliefs, sexuality or politics
  • Entrant must submit poetry (up to two poems, five pages maximum), literary non-fiction (2,000–5,000 words), short fiction (2,000–5,000 words) or graphic fiction (finished panels or samples of illustrations)
  • Writing must be in alignment with the Commonwealth’s commitment to freedom of expression
  • Writers from small and vulnerable member states are encouraged to apply
  • Writing translated to English are accepted
