Ejiro Otive-Igbuzor Calls for Safety Consciousness

Since Covid-19 found its way into Nigeria, the cases have been increasing. Currently, there are over 10,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country, with over 3,200 recovered and about 320 deaths.

The Executive Director of Women Empowerment and Reproductive Health Centre (WERHC), Ejiro Otive-Igbuzor, has advised people to remain careful during this global pandemic. She stated, ‘This phase of personal responsibility is the most difficult and risky. Calculate your movement and your risk. If you must meet up, please kit up! If you have no business out there, stay in your house. My gates are still closed. Any essential meet up will be highly controlled. Yes, I do not trust you to be that careful, please do not trust me. Protect yourself from me as I protect myself from you. I still love you but the numbers are rising and I cannot carelessly ignore that. The greatest achievement at this time is staying alive. Keep safe, people! We will overcome’!

The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered that citizens must be on their face masks if they have to go out and they should also maintain physical distancing in order to curb the spread of the virus. The government has also asked that banks, offices, shops and markets should have a place for customers and clients to wash or sanitise their hands before starting any business or transaction. However, everyone has a responsibility to keep safe and stay alive by following all preventative measures against the spread of the virus.
