Microsoft and the government of Egypt have signed a joint cooperation agreement with the aim of ensuring safe teaching and learning amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
Development Diaries understands that the agreement signed by the country’s Minister of Education, Dr. Tarek Shawki, is expected to create digital educational environments that will include activating the e-services account for the entire ministry.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, every country, including Egypt, has struggled to maintain some level of learning and progress.
A study of how much children learn at school in their country concluded that about 70 percent of children aged ten in Egypt could not read and comprehend an age-appropriate text, according to World Bank’s Learning Poverty report.
In the past two years, the country has made a paradigm shift in secondary school education, with the introduction of computer-based tests for grade ten and 11.
Therefore, this partnership with Microsoft is in line with the country’s strategy towards digital transformation and the provision of innovative technological services.
‘This collaboration will provide accessibility and equip educators and students with solutions like Office 365 Apps that will empower them to achieve more’, Microsoft said in a statement.
‘The automated system for extracting accounts will be implemented in an easy and safe manner for more than 20 million students and more than a million teachers in cooperation with Microsoft and its software development business partner Cairo Codes and BlueCloud to design the website with modern methods’.
