Seven international organisations have formed a joint mission to observe Egypt’s parliamentary elections in November.
The mission consists of Volunteers without Borders, Entrepreneurship and Social Economy Group (EKO), the Zemus Association, the Elizka Relief Foundation, the Gals Forum International, the Africa Platform, and the Uganda National NGO Forum.
Development Diaries understands that Egypt will hold parliamentary elections in two stages from 24 October to 14 December.
A total of 568 seats are up for grabs in the country’s upcoming House of Representatives elections.
The announcement of the formation of the mission was made after several meetings and consultations among members.
It is understood that Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights will coordinate the mission’s work.
General Director of Maat, Ayman Okeil, indicated that Maat will contact a group of competent local organisations to accompany the members of the mission during the observation.
The mission’s main operations room, it was gathered, will remain in permanent session until the election results are announced.
The international organisations have also agreed with Maat to observe all stages of the electoral process, including the registration, campaign, and re-election stages, according to Okeil.
