ECOWAS Sets up Anti-GBV Working Group

The Department of Social Affairs and Gender in ECOWAS has set up a regional actors working group against gender-based violence/violence against children in the region.

Development Diaries understands that the purpose of the intervention was to galvanise immediate action across the region towards eradicating SGBV and ensuring that children and woman are protected now and beyond the Covid-19 Pandemic.

At the inauguration of the working group, Commissioner for Social Affairs and Gender, ECOWAS Commission, Siga Jagne, stated that GBV against children was a pervasive human rights concern.

She charged the members of the working group to interface with other related structures/networks at both national and regional levels.

Human Security Head, Raheemat Momodu, said the group was expected to support ECOWAS and its member states to mainstream prevention and management of GBV/VAC in national development plans during the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.
