United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has conducted business and entrepreneurial training for 50 innovators and entrepreneurs in Djibouti.

The training was conducted as part of the UNDP’s first GO Social Business Camp training in the country.

The UN agency, in a tweet, said that the training was meant to help the participants develop income-generating businesses.

‘50 Djiboutian innovators [and] entrepreneurs participate in the [first] GO Social Business Camp training #RisingDjibouti. Intensive training to develop their income-generating business [and] unique networking opportunity’, UNDP tweeted.

According to the World Bank, entrepreneurship has strong potential to generate employment for all working age people especially youth and women in Djibouti.

The Chamber of Commerce of Djibouti (CCD) has been spearheading the development of entrepreneurship activities in the country. But the CCD, it is understood, lacks resources and capacity to have large-scale impact and outreach.

The UN said it has also been implementing programmes on youth employment, supporting the establishment of an innovation hub as well as efforts to provide access to financing for businesses and entrepreneurs.
