Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, has launched a mass casualty plan in response to a school shooting in Kumba, Southwest Cameroon.
Development Diaries gathered that gunmen stormed the Mother Francisca College in Kumba, shooting at children in the school.
One parent who was outside the school at the time of the attack said the gunmen arrived in civilian cloths in the middle of the day before shooting the children indiscriminately.
‘This attack, which saw children gunned down while attending school, was a reprehensible and indecent act’, the organisation’s Emergency Coordinator in southwest Cameroon, Alberto Marcos, said.
‘As a medical humanitarian organisation, we lament the tragic loss of life in the Kumba community’.
The humanitarian medical organisation has received several people injured simultaneously, according to a statement on the NGO’s website.
‘Doctors Without Borders received a total of ten patients between the ages of ten and 15’, the organisation said.
‘Of these patients, five were referred to other hospitals for specialist treatment through our ambulance service, four continue to receive treatment in PGH; and tragically, one patient was pronounced dead on arrival’.
