The World Bank Group (WBG) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Economist.
The bank, with 189 member countries and more than 120 offices worldwide, works with public and private sector partners, invests in groundbreaking projects and uses data, research, and technology to develop solutions to the most urgent global challenges.
The WBG consists of five specialised institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
Responsibilities
- Conduct macroeconomic monitoring and contribute to the dialogue on macroeconomic policy and economic growth issues with the authorities and non-government stakeholders of the assigned country/countries
- Serve as a focal point for the bank on macroeconomic issues
- Coordinate the macroeconomic monitoring and policy dialogue with the IMF and development partners
- Lead and/or contribute to lending operations focused on economic policies and reforms
- Provide thought leadership on core economic development issues for the assigned country/countries
- Analyse challenges to economic growth/productivity and integrates structural, sectoral and macroeconomic issues
- Lead and/or contribute to the preparation of key economic policy papers, policy notes and reports, including core analytics such as country economic memorandums, public expenditure reviews, among others
- Support the analytical work programme of the country management unit including the preparation of country engagement products and other key strategic pieces,
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Economics
- Five years of relevant professional experience (a completed PhD is equivalent to three years of relevant professional experience), including a track record of delivery of high quality analytical and advisory products
- Experience in conflict or fragile countries a plus
- Strong analytical skills in macroeconomic and fiscal management
- Ability to conduct policy-relevant research
- Ability to keep record of policy engagement on fiscal and macro-micro reforms
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex analyses to non-specialist audiences
- Strong client-orientation and diplomatic skills combined with candor and courage of opinion
- Ability to work flexibly on a range of assignments and adjust to a variety of complex evolving tasks to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of entrepreneurial capabilities that can be deployed in identifying and securing new business opportunities
