The World Bank Group (WBG) is seeking to fill the role of Accounting Officer.
The bank, with 189 member countries and more than 120 offices worldwide, works with public and private sector partners, invests in groundbreaking projects and uses data, research, and technology to develop solutions to the most urgent global challenges.
The WBG consists five specialised institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and execute payment, accounting and reporting activities for WBG’s payroll, accounts receivable and staff benefit programmes
- Work with other WFA colleagues and auditors, as required, to implement new accounting policies and standards
- Work with business partners to operationalise WBG policies
- Work with ITS colleagues on system-related matters, including analysis, design and testing, to deliver robust technology solutions as required
- Lead project teams in tasks, such as developing and executing detailed test plans for system enhancements, and developing business procedures for new transactions
- Identify solutions that balance client needs with division and institutional requirements
- Coordinate and work with the payroll, accounts receivable and tax team to develop, track and monitor key performance indicators and metrics that provide data for future improvement opportunities
- Develop automated reports and analytical/diagnostic tools to enhance payroll expense and accounts receivable monitoring
- Develop accounting procedures, and design and deliver training programmes for staff impacted by new software and business tools
- Support the analysis of risk, efficiency, productivity and cost-effectiveness through regular benchmarking
Requirements
- Master’s degree with five years relevant experience or bachelor’s degree with a minimum of seven years relevant experience
- CA or CPA (or an equivalent professional accounting qualification)
- Experience of project management and systems implementation (desirable)
- Experience with process optimisation initiatives and six sigma certifications (desirable)
- Experience with SAP FI (financial module) (desirable)
- Ability to analyse data and prepare key information for management using Power BI, Tableau or similar reporting software
- Ability to learn and apply new technology quickly and effectively
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Excel, Word and Power Point
- Ability to quickly analyse accounting data structures and data inter-relationships and make recommendations on process, system and control improvements
- Excellent judgment and strong communication skills with the ability to prepare, present, and discuss findings verbally and in writing
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and tactfully interact with staff at all levels
- Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines, and possess attention to detail
- Ability to interact appropriately in a multi-cultural environment and build effective working relations with stakeholders and colleagues
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
