World Health Organisation (WHO) is seeking to fill the role of Team Lead.

The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multidisciplinary unit focused on country preparedness, readiness and core capacity building in developing and implementing its workplan
  • Ensure the delivery of major products, providing an expert approach and authoritative advice to country capacity building and training and learning activities
  • Provide authoritative advice in the development of strategies, new policies, procedures, tools and guidelines supporting the development of guidance for national surveillance
  • Lead and guide the work in the areas of mass gathering, regional office’s readiness to emergencies as well as core capacity building of member states in the areas of emergency preparedness for public health emergencies
  • Ensure the implementation of the results framework, foster prioritisation of activities in the team, ensuring the best use of limited resources and monitor the performance of work programmes
  • Ensure the timely and careful use of the unit’s resources so that adequate support is assured, ensuring the administrative and budgetary standards, guidelines, priorities and directions of WHO, WHE and CPI are correctly complied with
  • Lead, motivate, guide, manage and evaluate performance of staff in the PCB sub-unit dealing with preparedness, readiness and mass gathering
  • Resolve situations which might pose a threat to WHO or its reputation by identifying and solving critical problems and negotiating and implementing measures to reduce risks

Requirements

  • First degree in Medicine and master’s degree in Public Health or a related field
  • Training in Emergency Preparedness/Crisis Management/Humanitarian Action/Mass Gathering Medicine/Disaster Management
  • Ten years, minimum, of national and international experience in handling country capacity building
  • Experience in strategy formulation and interagency collaboration
  • Experience in human and financial resource management with a strong track record of leadership and management of teams comprising different technical and cultural backgrounds and work experience in WHO, another UN agency, non-governmental or humanitarian organisation
  • Proven primary responsibility for managing cross-cutting initiatives involving different departments or organisational entities in a multinational context
  • Sound knowledge of the WHO rules and regulations as related to the subject matter, and of the relevant resolutions of the World Health Assembly and the executive board
  • Leadership and team management skills in international and multi-cultural settings, including the proven capacity to lead and deliver on deadlines during periods of extreme stress and intense activity
  • Ability to interact and negotiate with senior leadership in national and international agencies and organisations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications and presentation skills with proven ability to write in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to quickly comprehend strategic and tactical objectives
  • Working knowledge of French and/or Arabic will be a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of English
