World Health Organisation (WHO) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Social Media Officer.
The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with corporate, programme and emergency communication officers and focal points in EMR’s regional and country offices to develop timely, engaging and contextualised social media content for ongoing and emerging health topics, campaigns, events and initiatives
- Recommend and implement the selection, packaging, branding of diverse social media tools (including live streaming, online polls, etc.), key messages and content (including design solutions)
- Mitigate misinformation and reputation risks through proactive and skilled monitoring and messaging across all EMRO social media platforms and pages, and use specialised social media technology/applications to gauge the quality and performance of EMRO social media posts at regional and country levels and recommend new approaches and improvements
- Facilitate the development and rollout of new EMRO social media capacity-building tools to enhance organisational learning, especially at country level
- Provide recommendations for development of a WHO/EMRO social media strategy, action plan, guidelines and SOPs, and also support creating/running new corporate accounts on emerging social media platforms as well as social media accounts for the regional director
- Provide technical support to WHO country offices in planning, developing and monitoring content on WCO accounts
- Ensure coherent and consistent applications of WHO/EMRO’s social media policies and procedures
Requirements
- University degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, Social, Health Science, or a related field
- Training courses or certifications in Health Communications, Digital Media, Social Media, Corporate Branding, Emergency Communications, Storytelling, etc
- Two years, minimum, of relevant experience in corporate social media platforms, developing corporate social media content (posts, designs, etc), action plans, SOPs, including analytical monitoring of corporate social media accounts and handling reputational risks and misinformation
- Similar assignments within an international environment (desirable)
- Practical knowledge and hands-on experience in utilising and managing major social media platforms, tools, and applications, including for social media monitoring and analytics
- Knowledge of social media trends in the WHO eastern Mediterranean region, including the region’s public health sector
- Ability to produce engaging and evidence-based social media content in English and Arabic
- Proven skills in the development and implementation of social media tools, products and tactics including interactive features such as live streaming, polls, etc
- Ability to cocreate and co-execute an organisational social media plans, SOPs and guidelines that will increase WHO-EMRO brand awareness, drive traffic to EMRO web pages, and provide consistent visibility to partners, donors and health ministries as EMRO stakeholders
- Ability to transfer knowledge and support building of organisational capacities in key areas and procedures for effective and collaborative management of social media
- Ability to work under pressure to achieve multiple deadlines
- Ability to ‘think out of the box’ and to make innovative proposals to extend EMRO’s social media outreach and influence
