The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking to fill the role of Social Protection Officer.

WFP works to ensure the most vulnerable populations, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

Responsibilities

  • Provide WFP country offices with technical and backstopping support, providing technical guidance, as required, including through field missions and temporary duty travel, to support development, review and implementation of strategies and programmes in support of national social protection systems
  • Contribute to ongoing strategic planning processes at country and regional levels on social protection and safety nets and support the improved positioning of WFP in this area
  • Research and analyse a range of policy and operational issues to inform the development of country strategies, programmes and activities, with a specific focus on social protection and safety nets
  • Contribute to the development and coordination of case studies, research, operational information and other knowledge management products
  • Support the organisation of external presentations and events showcasing WFP experience and learning, and promote effective information-sharing and exchange
  • Support the identification, development and management of potential collaborative partnerships in the area of social protection, including with other UN agencies, international financial institutions, government and regional entities and initiatives, and academia
  • Support capacity building of country office staff and government counterparts to develop a community of practice, including through engagement with social protection initiatives
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports on programme activities to support decision making and information sharing

Requirements

  • Postgraduate degree (master’s degree or higher) in Social Policy, Political/Social Sciences, International Development, or a related field
  • Experience working on social policy/development policy issues with national government and/or with organisation advising government
  • Proven academic/research experience in the area of social policy/social protection
  • Experience in humanitarian and/or development field
  • Proven ability and experience in the coordination of interagency partnerships, including with government entities and international financial institutions
  • Knowledge of strategies and/or policies at global/regional/national level for social protection and safety nets, and major humanitarian and development challenges
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluency (level C) in English and Arabic
