The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking to fill the position of Programme Policy Officer.

WFP works to ensure the most vulnerable populations, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute towards the development of a limited number of projects, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidance
  • Provide project management support to smallholder-farmers-related programmes that are relatively straightforward in nature
  • Follow data gathering and monitoring systems, ensuring rigorous quality standards are maintained
  • Research and analyse policy and operational issues to support senior colleagues in the development of policies, programmes and activities
  • Contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on programmes and activities that enable informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders
  • Liaise with internal counterparts to ensure effective collaboration, and monitor projects
  • Support the identification, development and management of potential partnerships to collaborative working
  • Support the capacity building of junior staff, partners and national government to prepare for and respond to assistance needs, e.g., through project management support of learning initiatives
  • Provide guidance to support staff, acting as a point of referral and assisting with analyses and queries
  • Take part of core team responsible for integrated rural development activities in the country office
  • Support in the management of non-governmental organisations and community development associations in rural areas
  • Identify key variables and contextual factors that affect food agricultural or irrigation programmes throughout the lifecycle to inform quality programme design or re-design
  •  Report on climate change impacts and mitigation measures of different programmes

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Science, or a related field
  • First university degree with years of related work experience and/or training/courses will be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree
  • Five years, minimum, of experience in a similar role
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Arabic
