The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking to fill the role of Programme Assistant, Financial Inclusion Service.

WFP works to ensure the most vulnerable populations, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on financial services, especially financial inclusion and literacy for smallholder farmers and other members of the concerned communities, under the integrated climate risk management approach (ICRM)
  • Ensure operational backstop and technical support for the prudent risk taking and risk reserve components
  • Support the field offices in the coordination and management of partnerships with implementing partners, subnational stakeholders, and private sector
  • Supervise and guide service providers of financial services (financial literacy, insurance provider, etc.), monitoring their work, interaction with beneficiaries and other stakeholders
  • Build a network and enhance the capacity of key financial-inclusion stakeholders, bringing together stakeholders at local level from public and private sector
  • Ensure the documentation of the saving and credit components and contribute to the preparation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for relevant stakeholders
  • Support reporting of progress of activities to the country office, according to internal and external requirements
  • Support the development of reporting and communications materials focusing on integrated climate risk management and financial services components
  • Perform any other activity as required

Requirements

  • Secondary school education
  • University degree in Social Sciences, Finance, Economics, Development, or related field (preferred)
  • Four years, minimum, of relevant experience with background and interest in agri-business, and financial inclusion
  • Knowledge and experience of financial services, including working with ASCAs and savings and loans groups
  • Sound understanding of risk reserves, prudent risk taking and risk transfer measures
  • Ability to explain projects and operations to counterparts and communicate with government and partners clearly and effectively
  • Ability to translate understanding of programme principles into relevant, effective, and context-specific approaches
  • Portuguese and English fluency
