The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Procurement Assistant.

WFP works to ensure the most vulnerable populations, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative procurement activities in a timely and efficient manner, supporting professional staff in the acquisition of goods and services for efficient field operations
  • Prepare and distribute documents, and support successful procurement programmes, operational activities, ensuring standard processes are followed
  • Review, record and prioritise purchasing requests, ensuring all supporting documentation is received, and funding is available, in order to enable the procurement of goods and services
  • Coordinate and monitor the delivery of procurement requisitions, verifying receipt and inspection of deliverables, and performing follow-up actions to ensure supplies reach HQ and field operations
  • Research, collate and present information in standard formats, to enable informed decision making and consistency of information presented to the stakeholders
  • Update, manage and maintain relevant databases and records, to ensure the information is accurate, organised, and available for others to access
  • Liaise with internal counterparts to support the alignment of procurement activities with wider programmes and ensure a coherent approach to meeting food assistance needs
  • Provide technical support and/or allocate work to other support staff members in order to assist them in completing standard tasks to agreed standards and deadlines
  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to support WFP to quickly respond and deploy food and needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school education
  • Post-secondary certificate in Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Management, Law, Economics, or a related field (desirable)
  • Three years, minimum, of experience in procurement, including administration services, programme or a related field
  • Experience in handling procurement activities (purchasing, vendor research, etc.)
  • Experience in conducting cost analyses and developing reports
  • Experience in working with suppliers on a day-to-day basis
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, Outlook, etc
  • General knowledge of UN procurement policies, rules, regulations and procedures, administrative policies, good team spirit
  • Ability to identify and resolve operational problems with substantial independence
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work systematically, effectively and accurately
  • Ability to train other staff regarding relevant work responsibilities
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate assignments to achieve common goals
  • Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work with accuracy under time constraints and pressure
  • Nationality of Cameroon
  • Fluency in French with working knowledge of English
