The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Internal Communications Officer.

WFP works to ensure the most vulnerable populations, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and update an appropriate work plan for RBC internal communications,
  • Support change management process in collaboration with management and external learning and development experts
  • Build capability of senior leadership in leading organisations through transition
  • Plan, manage and evaluate internal communications campaigns that favourably impact the views and behaviours of staff, leaders and managers in order to support WFP’s strategic direction and promote positive workplace culture
  • Produce communications collateral and be an innovative, dynamic and creative content generator across multiple platforms and channels, with the goal of conveying the desired message to targeted audience(s)
  • Define an internal social media plan for Yammer and Intranet for RBC and the region
  • Track and analyse internal communications and engagement, to identify trends and/or issues, and propose solutions and ideas to improve the effectiveness of communication strategy and activities
  • Establish clear communication action plans, schedules, milestones and calendars to support internal communications that help culture, drive engagement and deliver results
  • Plan and execute regular engagement events that encourage two-way dialogue between management and employees, as well as colleagues in different teams to encourage knowledge sharing
  • Plan for and support the online and internal communications activities of the five strategic opportunities
  • Lead communication on the Global Staff Survey (GSS) outcomes and initiatives, facilitating engagement with management and staff and assist with rollout of Respect+ campaign for bureau
  • Conduct regular surveys and use website metrics to measure staff’s satisfaction as well as know their needs with regards to internal communications tools and services
  • Oversee the management of the design, production and curation of WFP visibility materials for internal use
  • Build capacity in region on all aspects of internal relations communication, providing advice, guidance and training
  • Coordinate and prepare accurate and timely reporting on communication activities that enables informed decision-making, evaluation of objectives and consistency of information presented to leadership and management teams
  • Manage junior communications team members, develop work plans, monitor performance against objectives and ensure appropriate development to enable high performance
  • Carry out other tasks as required

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or a related field, or first university degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses
  • Five years, minimum, of relevant postgraduate professional experience in communications
  • Experience in specialised internal communication practices and its application to all activities
  • Experience in managing small teams of staff with related areas of expertise in the delivery of innovative communication projects
  • Experience in providing support in leading projects and input into functional policies
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees
  • Team-player who can work well independently and within a matrix team structure and has great interpersonal abilities
  • Proactive and highly organised professional, with strong time management and planning skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure
  • Technology savvy, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to work harmoniously with people of different national and cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of WFP’s corporate culture, and that of the UN system in general, (desirable)
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic
