United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking to fill the role of Climate Insurance Programme Officer.

The mission of WFP is to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Ivory Coast office in the implementation of the micro-insurance activity, in particular, the cocoa pilot project, and prepare the 2023/2024 season for the GCF project
  • Support the WFP country office and partners on product design or adaptation and expansion
  • Support the development of national capacities for the design of index insurance
  • Document the processes and results of ongoing insurance activities in the country and develop knowledge management materials, including training modules and guidelines, for the use of different financial products in order to protect against climate risks at the microeconomic level
  • Organise training sessions for product knowledge
  • Provide technical support to the national office for the introduction of insurance in its programme or for the strengthening of the existing programme

Requirements

  • Professional experience in weather risk insurance, inclusive microinsurance, meso-insurance, macro-insurance or disaster risk financing
  • Specific knowledge of agricultural and climate insurance initiatives in developing countries, at micro and macro levels
  • Experience in microfinance and savings systems will be a plus
  • Demonstrated field experience in the distribution, operations and management of risk finance or microfinance solutions, including outreach, training and capacity building (desirable)
  • Experience in supporting planning and project development processes at the national level
  • Experience in broader food security analysis, policy, disaster risk reduction or a related field will be an asset
  • Experience in the management and development of farmers’ organisations and cooperatives
  • Proven track record in developing and supporting agricultural value chains
  • Proven experience working in developing countries, with a particular focus on risk financing solutions
  • Proven skills in data collection and analytical writing
  • Experience in establishing contacts and liaising with partner organisations
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
