The World Bank Group (WBG) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Practice Manager in Nairobi, Kenya. The duration of this post is four years.
WBG has set two ambitious goals: to push extreme poverty to no more three percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.
Responsibilities
The Practice Manager will perform the following functions:
- Solutions and results to clients:
- Lead her/his team to deliver the GP’s key strategic priorities and, in collaboration with Country Directors, ensure alignment with the WBG Strategy, Country Partnership Framework
- Draw on thought leadership and implementation know-how to ensure high impact multi-sectoral solutions
- Build and maintain a balanced portfolio of innovative, cost-effective and demand-driven products and services
- Work in partnership with other PMs in the GP and with other GPs, as well as public and private stakeholders, in order to find tailored and holistic solutions to complex development challenges
- Accountable for delivering high-quality and timely results
- People/Talent Management:
- Model exemplary WBG leadership values and managerial behaviors and reinforces these qualities in own team and staff
- Drive and inspire technical excellence within the team and the GP by creating an environment of learning and innovation that attracts and develops the best talent reflective of the diversity of our clients
- Support GP management in developing and implementing appropriate strategies for global staffing, deployment, talent and performance management
Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Passion for the WBG mission
- Excellence in managerial skills, demonstrated through outstanding leadership of teams, demonstrated mentoring experience, and a passion for team management, career development, and staff skills building
- Outstanding ability to work in teams, influence across boundaries, encourage and include different perspectives, and build social capital in diverse groups that use their diversity for greater impact to the benefit of clients
- Recognised development practitioner within WBG or among one or more of the following: academia, partners, private sector actors, and policymakers, and with track record of applying practice know-how and effective policy dialogue to achieve development results
- Demonstrated in-depth experience working across practice and disciplinary boundaries, and with multiple stakeholders – both public and private – in building collaborative alliances for results
- Strong written and oral communication skills with proven experience in dealing with the media, external constituencies and expert groups
- Master’s or PhD degree in relevant field, and 12-15 years of experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility
- Technical knowledge and experience in development areas, preferably in one or more of the following: urban development, municipal finance, solid waste, climate policy, urban and regional planning, disaster risk assessment and reconstruction
- Extensive experience with both country level projects and analytical work, as well as with the agenda relevant to urban development, disaster risk management, including the climate change agenda
