The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is seeking to fill the role of Operations Senior Manager.
UNOPS’ mission is to serve people in need by expanding the ability of the United Nations, governments and other partners to manage projects, infrastructure, and procurement in a sustainable and efficient manner.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all personnel under operations’ section
- Manage the coordination and delivery of crosscutting operations’ services to the projects in support of the country programme strategy including through the regular liaison with relevant sections and external stakeholders
- Contribute to the design of the mine action response with technical expertise in line with the country programme strategy
- Represent the programme with technical expertise as a subject matter expert on explosive threat management including through the elaboration of statement of work for the provision of mine action services, the elaboration of training materials, and acting as a programme representative liaising with UNMAS and UNOPS HQs and other entities when required
- Lead the collection, analysis, quality management, and dissemination of available mine/UXO/IED information in collaboration with relevant programme sections
- Contribute to development of strategies, plans, budgets, reports and related documents to facilitate implementation of programme activities in line with the country programme strategy
- Ensure programme compliance with internationally recognised standards, SOPs, best practices, and safety standards for relevant mine action activities including explosive detection dogs, explosive ordnance disposal and improvised explosive device disposal, survey, risk education, search and detect, etc., and provide operational input for the revision and updating of those documents
Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent with seven years, minimum, of relevant experience; or bachelor’s degree or equivalent with nine years, minimum, of relevant experience; or relevant military or police experience with 13 years, minimum, of relevant experience
- Relevant seven years of experience in mine action field operations
- Relevant five years of experience in management of mine action operations
- Experience in capacity building in Africa (desirable)
- Experience with UN mine action programmes, policies, and coordination mechanisms (desirable)
- Knowledge of French (desirable)
- Fluency in English
