The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is seeking to fill the role of Finance Assistant.
UNOPS’ mission is to serve people in need by expanding the ability of the United Nations, governments and other partners to manage projects, infrastructure, and procurement in a sustainable and efficient manner.
Responsibilities
- Under the guidance and supervision of the finance manager, provide a variety of specialised finance, accounting, and clerical functions related to project accounting and financial reporting
- Ensure high quality, accuracy and consistency of work and promote a client-oriented approach consistent with UNOPS’ financial rules and regulations
- Work in close collaboration with the UNOPS’ operations, programme and project staff for resolving finance-related issues and information exchange
- Ensure implementation of operational strategies
- Carry out treasury functions
- Provide accounting, administrative and clerical support
- Carry out financial reporting
- Ensure knowledge building and knowledge sharing
- Process operational advances (OA) establishment requests, ensuring compliance with the applicable UNOPS rules, regulations and rates
- Follow up on urgent OA requests with IPAS finance and FG to ensure timely disbursement to custodians
- Support in monitoring the tranche spending to allow processing of the next tranche upon 80 percent spending burn-rate
- Support with reconciliation of OA at the end of activity, ensuring that the supporting documents are legit, authentic and the traveling allowance paid is as per the applicable rate as agreed with the donor
- Assist with timely liquidation of the OA and ensure OA closures are made timely, as appropriate
- Ensure review of payment requests in oneUNOPS ERP for completeness, to ensure that documentation is complete and all information concerning the payment has been supplied
- Review and confirm appropriateness of operational transactions processed through the interpretation and determination of applicable UNOPS policies, regulations and rules
- Ensure preparation of miscellaneous receipts on miscellaneous income, review of supporting documents
- Ensure monitoring of recorded expenditures and related contributions
Requirements
- Secondary school certificate or equivalent qualification
- University degree or diploma or certification in Accounting, Business Administration or a related area (desirable)
- Four years, minimum, of national and international experience in finance
- One year, minimum, of knowledge and experience in accounting reconciliation, cash management or/and ERP systems
- Knowledge and experience in accounting and financial reporting (desirable)
- Experience in the use of Google Suite applications as well as in handling of web-based management systems (desirable)
