United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) is seeking to fill the role of Human Resource Assistant.

UNOCHA coordinates the global emergency response to save lives and protect people in humanitarian crises.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the filling of posts for all categories, including initiating and following up on reference checks and academic verifications, ensuring the completion of the pre-recruitment formalities for satisfactory medical clearance, travel arrangements and visa requests
  • Coordinate the release/reporting of selected candidates by liaising with offices from Geneva and other United Nations duty stations and preparing release requests
  • Oversee the maintenance of vacancy announcement files and tracking status of vacancy announcements
  • Review and process personnel actions through Umoja
  • Coordinate with counterparts on separation of staff members and initiate e-clearances and related actions;
  • Process separation and related entitlements, and calculate estimates of termination indemnities and related entitlements for staff members separating on termination
  • Review and process requests for entitlements and claims, including dependency allowance, education grant and mobility and related allowances
  • Maintain Umoja entitlement reference tables
  • Assist in the organisation and conducting of training courses and workshops
  • Provide information on training opportunities to Administrative Assistants and counterparts in client departments whenever needed
  • Advise staff on visa matters

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Seven years, minimum, of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, administrative services or a related area
  • The minimum number of years of relevant experience is reduced to five for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher
  • Three years, minimum, of experience in human resources functions within the United Nations Common System or similar international organisation
  • Experience with online recruitment systems and ERP systems (such as Inspira or Umoja or similar)
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable
