The UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals has opened applications for Legal Affairs Internship.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals was established by the UN Security Council through the adoption of resolution 1966 (2010) of 22 December, 2010.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of legal officers in the IOR, Arusha branch, interns
  • Provide legal and administrative support with respect to a range of functions, including conducting research in international, criminal, and administrative law
  • Assist IOR legal officers in drafting and reviewing legal submissions, official correspondence, memoranda, talking points, and decisions
  • Routine tasks such as cite-checking and compiling materials

Requirements

  • Candidates must be in the final year of university legal studies at undergraduate or postgraduate level; or completed a non-legal undergraduate university degree and one year, minimum, of graduate legal studies by the time the internship commences
  • Applicants must be computer literates in standard software applications
  • Professional work experience is not mandatory for participation in the programme
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Working knowledge of French will be an asset
