United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking to fill the role of Programme Specialist, Adolescent and Youth Development.

UNFPA is the lead UN agency that works towards ensuring every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and technical support to the design, development implementation and reporting/documentation of Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH), HIV and youth development programmes, ensuring the mainstreaming into national policies, strategies and frameworks
  • Contribute to enhancing national capacity to mobilise and obtain social and political support for national policies and programmes in the field of young people, HIV prevention and youth development
  • Contribute to overall management and coordination, ASRH system strengthening, HIV prevention and youth development efforts
  • Advise the country representative/deputy representative and assistant representative on all issues regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for adolescent and youths, including humanitarian setting, in the context of the national policies, strategies and programmes
  • Analyse and interpret policies, strategies, national plans and development frameworks to strategically position the support and intervention of UNFPA on SRHR of adolescents and the youth
  • Coordinate the SRHR of adolescent and the youth outcome area of the country programme of UNFPA Ethiopia
  • Provide technical services and arrange technical backstopping with UNFPA headquarters and regional office regarding SRHR for adolescent and youth programme
  • Review the political, social and economic environment relevant to UNFPA programme activities, pursuing opportunities for UNFPA assistance and intervention
  • Establish, strengthen and monitor collaborative relationships and partnerships with other UN agencies, implementing partners, technical experts, government/non-government counterparts, academia, research and training institutions, centres of excellence and professional societies in the country
  • Actively participate in the development and updating of guidelines, standards, tools, manuals and approaches, as required, in the field of ASRH, HIV prevention and youth development
  • Prepare reports for headquarters, regional office, government and donors (as required)

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Health, Population, Demography or a related discipline
  • Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights, adolescent and youth development, and a related experience in humanitarian and development contexts
  • Experience in programme/project management
  • Proven experience in coordinating/managing a multi-disciplinary team of staff, experts and consultants
  • Experience in drafting and implementing legislation
  • Field experience is an asset
  • Experience in the UN system is an asset
