United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Programme Coordinator.

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.

Responsibilities

  • Provide substantive leadership and inputs into the design and formulation of programmes and projects translating UNFPA’s mandate and strategic priorities, particularly the three transformative goals into local interventions, and responding to government plans and priorities
  • Introduce into the project formulation process the results of programme and project reviews and evaluations, best practices, as well as innovative strategies, approaches and policies
  • Advise and report on achievement of programme and project results, proactively measuring substantive progress and the effective utilisation of financial and human project resources using appropriate monitoring and measuring mechanisms and tools
  • Lead programme and project implementation, guiding and orienting executing agencies and project personnel introducing effective modalities and practices of implementation
  • Provide support to the development of the Nigeria Country Programme Sub-office document, supporting inclusive consultation processes at the state level
  • Coordinate the development and support the implementation of a capacity development strategy to strengthen overall capacities in the region
  • Provide guidance for capacity building for technical and programme support and synergy between regional programme and other activities at the country level
  • Create and document knowledge by evaluating programmes, projects and ongoing experience for lessons learned, best practices and replicable strategies and approaches and actively shares and applies this knowledge
  • Create mechanisms to collect and share knowledge
  • Help create and sub-office document knowledge about current and emerging programmatic issues, by analysing programmes, projects, strategies, approaches and ongoing experience for lessons learned, best practices, and shares with the Field Office team for use in knowledge sharing and planning future strategies

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Gender, International Development or other related fields
  • Seven years, minimum, of increasingly responsible professional experience in programme management and development relevant to Population and Development, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Gender
  • Substantive knowledge and practical experience in population and development, sexual and reproductive health, and gender issues
  • Experience in programme and/or technical assistance with the UN System
  • Excellent communication skills in speaking and writing English, to foster engaged partnerships at the highest level and to maintain political partnerships in the assigned region
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated, diverse team and be comfortable in multiple, high varied settings with different work and learning styles
  • Ability to lead and manage teams to achieve results
  • Field experience in Sub-Saharan Africa would be an advantage
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required
