The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Programme Management Officer.
UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects
- Monitor and analyse programme/project development and implementation
- Review relevant documents and reports
- Identify problems and issues to be addressed and propose corrective actions
- Liaise with relevant parties
- Identify and track follow-up actions
- Perform consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning and facilitating workshops through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change
- Research, analyse and present information gathered from diverse sources
- Assist in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies
- Undertake survey initiatives by designing data collection tools, reviewing, analysing and interpreting responses, as well as identifying problems/issues and preparing conclusions
- Prepare various written outputs, e.g., draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications
- Provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, and conferences, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations
- Undertake outreach activities
- Conduct training workshops and seminars
- Make presentations on assigned topics/activities
- Participate in or lead field missions, including the provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries
- Coordinate activities related to budget and funding
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Ecosystem Health, Environmental Health, Veterinary Medicine, Public Health, or a related field
- First-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in place of the advanced university degree
- Five years, minimum, of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, including designing, planning, facilitating and implementing knowledge-related and/or learning initiatives n the environment, health or ecosystem health sectors
- Experience in producing a variety of written communication products
- Experience working in environmental dimensions of health, particularly biodiversity, climate and/or ecosystem aspects (desirable)
- Experience in data management, analysis and visualisation (desirable)
- Experience in the international secretariat and/or the management of multi-partner funds (desirable)
