The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking to fill the position of Programme Management Officer.

UNEP’s mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and evaluate assigned programmes/projects
  • Monitor and analyse programme/project development and implementation
  • Review relevant documents and reports, identifying problems and issues to be addressed and initiating corrective actions, as well as liaising with relevant parties
  • Research, analyse and present information gathered from diverse sources for wetland valuation
  • Coordinate policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies related to climate change
  • Generate survey initiatives, design data collection tools, review, analyse and interpret responses
  • Organise and prepare written outputs
  • Initiate and coordinate outreach activities
  • Conduct training workshops, seminars, and make presentations on assigned topics/activities
  • Lead and/or participate in missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and draft mission summaries
  • Coordinate activities related to budget funding

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Environmental/Ecological Economics, Water Resources Management, Hydrology, Sustainable Development, Environmental Sciences, Development Studies, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources Management, or a related field
  • First-level university degree with two years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
  • Five years, minimum, of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management or a related area
  • Experience in climate change adaptation, water resources management, including modeling (desirable)
  • Experience in working with governments on adaptation planning and project design (desirable)
  • Experience in the United Nations system or a similar organisation (desirable)
  • Fluency in English and French
  • Knowledge of another United Nations official language (desirable)
