United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking to fill the role of Head of Stabilisation.
UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion.
Responsibilities
- Manage the stabilisation facility and its timely implementation
- Lead the project teams and work closely with a wide array of partners to ensure that the projects under stabilisation directly respond to the UNDP country programme strategy
- Supervise the project staff, provide coaching to staff and effective leadership
- Develop, oversee and monitor work plans and budgets for all activities in the project portfolio
- Ensure timely and adequate reporting, including timely and articulate progress reports
- Identify risks and challenges to the ongoing operations of the projects and provide advice to the resident representative on mitigation strategies
- Ensure appropriate levels of visibility and public awareness on results and ongoing activities
- Promote UNDP’s mandate and corporate policy and provide senior high-level policy advice on stabilisation
- Promote early stabilisation approaches and provide policy advice to UNDP senior management, government counterparts, donors and other partners on issues related to stabilisation
- Analyse political/social and economic situation of the country/region and identify strategic areas of support for UNDP in stabilisation and its transition to recovery
- Build solid relationships with key national partners and identify institutional development and capacity building opportunities and priorities, where relevant
- Ensure the integration of cross-cutting issues, such as gender, peacebuilding, human rights and resilience, into stabilisation and post crisis response
- Liaise closely with other UNDP programmes and ensure smooth transition of stabilisation to longer term development programmes
- Support partnership building and resource mobilisation for UNDP’s stabilisation programme
- Ensure sufficient resource mobilisation for the project in close consultation with senior management
- Ensure high-quality and timely reporting to government partners and donors involved in the project
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution, Peace Studies, Political Science, Human Rights, Sociology, International Relations, Economics, Law, Public Administration, or a related field
- Ten years, minimum, of experience of which five years in senior management position
- Experience in resource mobilisation
- Experience and track record of engagement with senior officials (such as in the United Nations, government and external partners)
- Experience in national and community level conflict prevention and peace-building initiatives and programming is an asset
- Experience in working in crisis or conflict country
- Experienced working in a multi-cultural and/or international work environment
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc
- Knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, as well as experience in the handling of web-based management systems
- Experience from previous UNDP assignments and/or UN agencies or multilateral banks (World Bank, African/Asian Development Bank, etc) and bilateral aid organisations will be an asset
- Fluency in English (written and oral)
