United Nations (UN) is seeking to fill the role of applicants for the post of Programme Management Officer, Human Settlements.
The UN Human Settlements programme is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of the quadrennial report of the implementation of the new urban agenda, the regional and national reports of the state of cities and human settlements
- Assist in preparing written reports, documents, write reports or sections of reports, case studies, background papers relating to internationally agreed goals and targets relevant to sustainable urbanisation and human settlements
- Assists in the analysis of urban development issues at the global, regional and national levels
- Undertake empirical research and analysis of trends, developments, and related policy issues relevant to the unit/departmental mandate, including urbanisation, urban economics, spatial development, local economic development and regional planning
- Research, analyse and present urban and human settlements information gathered from diverse sources
- Review, revise, summarise and edit country reports on internationally agreed goals and targets relevant to sustainable urbanisation
- Work with key partners, governments, local authorities, including global research networks on topics relating to sustainable urbanisation
- Assist planning, organising and servicing of expert group and technical meetings, policy dialogues, development seminars
- Participate in field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Urban Planning, Urban Development, Urban Geography, Economics, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Urban Governance, Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or any other related field
- First-level university degree with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
- Two years, minimum, of progressive experience in urban development, research and policy analysis at the local, national and international levels
- Experience in analytical drafting, reporting and presentation
- Networking experience (desirable)
- Experience in conducting policy reviews and preparation of policy recommendations for decisionmakers (desirable)
- Experience in analysing, summarising and presenting large quantities of statistics on urban issues using relevant computer software (desirable)
- Experience in the coordination of multiple contributions to major reports (desirable)
