TrustAfrica is seeking to fill the position of Project Accountant.

TrustAfrica is a pan-African foundation that works to strengthen African agencies to address the most difficult challenges confronting the continent.

Responsibilities

  • Support, coordinate and advise on all financial administrative procedure
  • Establish administrative and accounting filing system for all related issues
  • Manage all travel-related payments, including providing advances to project project staff and reconciling their reimbursements, and calculating and paying perdiems and honorariums
  • Review petty cash advance and process them into the financial system
  • Assist the finance manager with the end of month reconciliation, support, coordinate and advise on financial and budgetary management to ensure all project activities are undertaken in accordance with TrustAfrica financial and administrative procedures and local regulations
  • Make payments to vendors and grantees
  • Maintain highest professional standards in terms of quality and reliability of the project financial report records
  • Review and prepare monthly financial reports for the project and ensure that all balances are accurate before sending the reports to the Finance Manager and the programme/project manager
  • Coordinate the reconciliation of fixed assets bought for the project
  • Monitor project bank account
  • Prepare and post expenses through the financial system
  • Assist the programme or project manager to evaluate the budgets of potential grantees and programme events and provide them with financial assistance and advice as necessary
  • Perform other related duties as advised by the project manager

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or similar
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is an advantage
  • Two years, minimum, of experience as a project accountant or similar
  • Proficiency in electronic accounting systems like Dynamic Nave
  • Fluency in English or French with working knowledge of the other language or commitment to learn it
  • Ability to report to the finance manager and the programme manager
  • Advanced proficiency in managing general ledgers, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Exceptional ability to prepare project budgets and financial forecasts
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in accounting
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to adopt a well-ordered and methodical approach to tasks to achieve planned outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration
