Apply: Save the Children Head of Humanitarian

Save the Children International has announced a call for applications for the role of Regional Head of Humanitarian.
The organisation works to ensure children around the world get health care, food and shelter as well as learning and child protection services.
Responsibilities
  • Provide support to country offices (COs) on humanitarian preparedness and response against Save the Children’s quality benchmarks and policies
  • Provide advice on all programmatic and operational aspects of humanitarian affairs across West and Central Africa
  • Support COs in ensuring humanitarian activities are effective and efficient, and meet goals and objectives of Save the Children, its donors and the needs of affected populations
  • Ensure Save the Children COs are adequately prepared to respond to new emergencies and play an important role in humanitarian coordination at regional level
  • Play a strategic role in supporting COs in effective scale-up and management of Save the Children humanitarian programmes to increase impact and enable positive change for children
  • Work closely with regional operations managers, operations backstops as well as the humanitarian focal points and/or directors of programme operations within COs

Requirements

  • MA/MSc in International Cooperation/Humanitarian Aid, a related field or equivalent experience
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Five years, minimum, of proven experience in planning, coordination and management, preferably in the INGO sector and/or international environment
  • Experience of humanitarian programme management, preparedness and response in volatile contexts
  • Experience working in a regional and/or country office with preference in West and Central Africa
  • Experience of managing multi-donor, multi-site programmes
  • Experience in developing and delivering training, as well as mentoring and coaching
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to influence change at an operational and strategic level
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances
  • Commitment to and understanding of the organisation’s aims, values and principles
