Punocracy, a community of young writers of satire in Nigeria, has opened applications for the Punocracy Prize for Satire 2020.
Launched in March 2018, Punocracy encourages free speech, promotes critical thinking, and spreads political consciousness.
Its objective is to make satire a widely accepted and understood tool of socio-political commentary in the country, and to kindle the fire of interest in the genre.
Benefits
- All submissions that make it to the longlist will be published on the Punocracy website
- Winner (Literature) will get N70,000, books, and a certificate
- Winner (Visual Art) will get N50,000, books, and a certificate
- Runner-up (Literature) will get N50,000, books, and a certificate
- Third-place finisher (Literature) will get N30,000, books, and a certificate
Eligibility
- Open to Nigerians only
- Open to satirists who are between the ages of 15 and 30 as of 19 July, 2020
- Only one entry is allowed per person
- Entry must be written in English
- Articles and cartoons must be saved in .doc and .pdf formats respectively
- Article length must be between 300 and 1500 words
- Entry must not be plagiarised in part or in whole
- Entry must not be jointly authored or created
- Entry must not have been previously published
- Entry must be satirical
