Plan International is seeking to fill the position of Country Director.
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the strategy and emergency response plans for the country
- Ensure high quality programme work is delivered with the maximum involvement of children and young people
- Accurate and timely disbursement of the agreed country office budget including all donors’ commitments
- Grow and manage a grant portfolio to ensure that funds are raised in a timely manner for key project responses
- Lead emergency response interventions when the need arises
- Represent Plan International at key decision-making meetings/events in Niger
- Maintain good working relationships with government authorities, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations whilst achieving Plan International´s purpose and goals
- As a member of the West and Central Africa regional leadership team, contribute to the overall learning and strategic direction within the region
- Evaluate risks and put in place controls to ensure safety and security of staff, partners, programme participants as well as Plan International funds and assets
Requirements
- University degree in Development, Social Sciences, Business Administration or a related field
- Proven skills in talent identification, nurturing staff and leading effective and motivated teams, including distance management in highly volatile contexts
- Ten years, minimum, of exercising leadership functions with increasing responsibility in an international environment related to humanitarian assistance and development
- Demonstrable knowledge and practical experience in resource mobilisation, grants management and donor retention
- Experience leading emergency responses, participation in clusters, country humanitarian teams, and similar platforms
- Experience and understanding of the nexus concept in development programming and humanitarian response including social cohesion
- Good understanding of gender equality and inclusion and the promotion of girls’ rights in the context of deep-rooted Islamic and cultural norms and practices
- Knowledge of programming in difficult environments with good understanding and appreciation of working with and through local partners in challenging security, political and humanitarian contexts
- Excellent oral and written skills in English and French
- Proven analytical skills in isolating priorities and tackling them
