Communications Officer

Plan International is seeking to fill the position of Project Communications Officer.

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

Responsibilities

  • Fully understand project goals and have a good understanding of the key technical content and associated influencing agendas
  • Identify and segment audiences, genuinely empathising with their unique interests and starting points
  • Write and/or develop content (e.g., visuals) that engages and influences them
  • Engage and inspire others to achieve the organisation’s important goals

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with preference in Mass Communication, Journalism, Community Development, or a related field
  • Three years, minimum, of experience in a similar role, preferably with a non-governmental organisation (NGO)
  • Good understanding of the political, social, financial and cultural context within which the organisation operates
  • Experience in implementing projects that effectively reduce inequality and change how power is used
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and leading the impactful implementation of significant projects
  • Strong ability to analyse and interpret an appropriate range of data and evidence, both internal and external, using sound judgment to make balanced decisions based on insights gained or projection of trends
  • Experience in incorporating digital and technological solutions into plans and activities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of working practices, enhance communication and support innovation
  • Outstanding communication skills with ability to deeply understand the starting position of an audience and produce compelling written and/or spoken communications that effectively influence others
  • Track record of leading a team to work effectively together using negotiation and mediation techniques to manage conflict, and ensuring that diverse perspectives and viewpoints are welcomed
  • Special InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop skills
  • Experience with still photography, videography, and story-writing style of communication
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills with strong English language capability (written and oral) and ability to clearly communicate complex ideas and principles
  • Experience hosting or working with donors (preferred)
