Plan International is seeking to fill the position of Advocacy and Campaign Officer.

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

Responsibilities

  • Work with other project staff on a series of sensitisation, advocacy, consultations and engagements that will be undertaken at federal, state and community levels, to support the popularisation and adoption of ABEP programme, including the participation in gender-responsive annual budgeting
  • Work to promote the rights of girls, adolescent girls and young women, persons with disabilities
  • Enhance the capacities of partners, and youth groups in policy influencing, advocacy and use of digital platforms in their interventions and programming for sustained change
  • Support project’s behavioural change campaigns, with a focus on girls’ empowerment, and develop pilots applying innovative media approaches
  • Provide support and participate in all policy advocacy and campaign initiatives
  • Play a strategic role in the collaborations with relevant federal agencies, SAME, SUBEB and other government institutions and CSOs in the development and implementation of project activities
  • Build and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in programmes and other functions within the organisation to promote increased understanding of and investment in youth engagement and girls’ agency building as critical elements in delivering on the organisation’s commitments as stated in the country strategy
  • Work with the partnerships team to identify external engagement opportunities for the Country Director and the leadership team, that will position Plan International as a leading agency in child, girls and adolescent girls’ rights protection
  • Support the Human Resources (HR) team in recruitment and onboarding processes as required
  • Ensure staff have the right orientation and capacity for engagement with young people and their organisations
  • Play a central role in the communication and the MERL teams to generate relevant information and document efforts and knowledge materials that will enhance evidenced-based policy engagements, advocacy of the issues and campaign actions
  • Contribute to documentation and generation of knowledge products relevant to the creation of knowledge management resources, detail and dissemination of same among the organisation’s audiences, to promote knowledge about best practices and result-oriented approaches in advocacy and campaigns of the issues of project

Requirements

  • Experience in advocacy, campaigns and influencing actions
  • Knowledge of youth work, youth groups and formations and their organising in the country
  • Good knowledge of community engagement, mobilisation and mobilisation for joint advocacy and campaign actions
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to find, absorb, analyse and prioritise information from many different sources
  • Good oral communication/presentation skills

  • Ability to work under pressure, to meet tight deadlines, with competing priorities and minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in multi-national, multi-cultural teams
  • Ability to analyse organisation communication, demographic analysis, understand modern communication styles and the ability to craft messaging for multi-cultural audiences
  • Proven experience of strategy development
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Computer literate and well-versed in basic software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • University degree or equivalent in Education, Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, or related fields
  • Three years, minimum of working experience in advocacy and campaigns roles
  • Proven experience in quality and timely report writing
  • Good knowledge and understanding of ‘do no harm’ principles and established international child protection standards, especially United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
  • Experience with stakeholder management, mobilisation and motivation to take action
  • Strong ability to work independently, organise work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritise work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
  • Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well
  • Excellent command of the English language
