Apply: People Powered Climate Democracy Programme

Deadline: 05 January, 2024

People Powered has opened applications for its 2024 Climate Democracy Accelerator programme.

The programme is for government and civil society leaders interested in launching participatory programmes to shape climate policy in areas such as clean transportation, renewables, decarbonisation and energy-efficient homes, air pollution, agroecology and more.

Benefits

  • Participants will be part of a six-month practice-oriented training programme
  • A $10,000 implementation grant will be given to participants
  • Participants stand a chance to win an additional $20,000 award for the best project developed
  • Each participant will receive a dedicated mentor for a climate-focused project

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be local government officials, staff members and policymakers who want to launch a participatory programme for making just climate-related decisions. (Government institutions applying must have a partnership with a civil society organisation/non-governmental organisation, as the grant recipient must be a non-governmental entity).
  • Applicants must be civil society organisation staff members and/or climate advocates who want to implement a participatory programme focused on climate in partnership with a government institution. (Civil society organisations applying are strongly recommended to work in partnership with a government institution, as they must follow up with the implementation of the action plan).
  • Applications from organisations or governments based in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean are especially encouraged. People Powered or Open Government Partnership members will be prioritised.
  • People Powered cannot give funds to volunteer groups or recently incorporated civil society organisations through this programme. To receive funding, organisations must:
